MRA to promote ACPO research on crime prevention

Here’s an interesting fact: according to recent research commissioned by ACPO Crime Prevention Initiatives (the Association of Chief Police Officers’ organisation behind Secured by Design) crime accounts for at least 1% of the UK’s total annual carbon emissions. That’s equivalent to more than 6 million tones of CO2 – greater than the total carbon output of emerging economies such as Ecuador.

Now here’s another: the job of publicising the results of this ground-breaking research into the real costs of crime (both financial and environmental) has been given to MRA Marketing.

Over the coming months MRA will be spear-heading a campaign to increase awareness of the benefits of Secured By Design (SBD). SBD is the official UK Police initiative supporting the principles of designing out crime.

“Crime is an environmental as well as an economic issue,” explains MRA’s Director Lucia Di Stazio. “The latest research shows conclusively that designing products, homes and neighbourhoods to cut crime really works – SBD reduces burglary by over 50%. Moreover it also has a significant impact on people’s lives and onBritain’s drive to reduce its carbon footprint.”
